  Book 3

  Terrik

She had escaped somehow and he felt guilty for not stopping her. The female was the chief of security, guilty of heinous crimes and must be brought to justice for them. Terrik felt guilt for another reason, too. How could he feel drawn to a woman so evil? It was his inability to react that had allowed her to escape. He’d frozen because of the attraction he’d felt for that woman, Lorelai.

Lorelai had almost gotten caught. She’d been like a deer in the headlight as that incredibly sexy man had stared at her. Luckily, reason had returned and she’d gotten out of there. There was a job to be done and she was the only one that could do it. All she had to do was explain to the commander over all the labs, how she had been the only one to escape and make him believe it. The sexy stranger had to be cast to the back of her mind as she prepared to perform her duty.

On opposite sides, was there any way they could ever get together?

  Book 6

  Gabe

Once he reaches Space Station Theta, Gabe is appalled by how the subjects are treated. He is also intrigued by one particular subject. His need to be with her and care for her almost overwhelms his discipline which requires him to stay on target for his mission.

Donato is drawn to the handsome guard, but all guards are bad news. She tries to fight her attraction to him, but for some reason she feels he’s a protector. If she is wrong, it could be the death of her.

  Blurb

Isis was an undercover operative for Moon Hunter’s Inc. most of the time. She has gone into the most dangerous and scariest places there were. She has done things that made her skin crawl to get her job done. Cash wants to send her in undercover in the latest lab he’s found, but there’s a catch. He wants her to work with a government operative named Steve Gorman. She’s been involved with Steve before and that’s just not going to work.

Steve believes he’s in love with the beautiful hunter. They had a one night stand after space station Theta was taken down and now she’s avoiding him. There’s something between them and he’d convinced Cash to team them up so he can explore their connection. Too bad Isis is pissed. She’ll have to learn to compromise because he plans to claim her.

Love and hate can be closely related. Will Isis learn what she really feels for Steve isn’t dislike after all?

  Prologue

Isis was a Moon Hunter which made her one of the most dangerous females in the universe. She was one of the originals, a one percenter. She would protect her brother and sister hunters from any danger with her life if need be. It wasn’t often discussed, but hunters had a strong moral compass and a sense of unity. They were in it to win it and it was all for one and each one protected all.

Cash was their leader and each one of them had a special story that most didn’t share with anyone. He’d found them in various unfortunate circumstances and been like a mentor and a savior to each of them.

Strangers never understood and even new recruits often took a while to adjust to life as a hunter. It was more, much more, than a job. Being a hunter was a way of life. Those chosen to be part of the life had a particular honor about them. They also had a connection to Cash, and if Isis was honest, she wasn’t sure exactly what that connection was because she knew Cash was hiding things from them.

Steve knows he’s a fool. He let the most important thing in his life escape him and now he’s hunting her down.

  Isis

  Chapter 1

Space Station Zero had just come into view. It was the hangout of space pirates and ne’er do wells. Only the dregs of society, criminals, and those up to no good hung out there. What better place to hide a lab that tormented its subjects and carried out the most illicit of experiments? It was a cob
bled together nightmare that defied the laws of science. How was it even still in one piece?

Isis knew living on the hunk of junk would be taking her life in her hands. How could she do any less than people had once done for her? She was paying it forward, saving victims of this disgraceful organization as she’d been saved as a child. If only her mother could have been saved too. Her mother who she barely remembered. Guilt ate at her but she pushed it away. Her mind needed to be clear and ready to handle anything.

Loading on the shuttle with other people, she claimed a seat at the back. Being the first one off this ride would be no prize. Staring out the window as the station drew nearer, the view only emphasized her earlier impression of an old, poorly maintained habitat. It reminded her of huge rectangular storage tanks welded together to look like a twentieth century train. In front of that was a docking platform and that was where they were headed.

Once they were nearly to the docking platform, she could see the pitted spots all along the surface where something had hit the station. Didn’t they have any force fields or protection devices to prevent hits on the outside? Perhaps she had underestimated the danger of being here.

“There you are. Izzy Monroe, doctor? That’s a weird moniker you got. My name is Polly and I’m thrilled to see you.”

  “Why so thrilled?” Isis asked.

“You’re here now so I guess I can be honest with you. I get to leave now that you made it,” Polly admitted.

  “Don’t you like it here?”

Polly looked around and turned slightly away from a camera so it couldn’t catch her lips. “I hate this damn place. It’s the meanest rottenest place you’ll ever come. They’re animals,” Polly described.

  “Who is?”

“The other doctors and the guards. The conditions are deplorable. Complain and you’re likely to get beaten or raped. Keep your head down, your mouth shut, and your eyes closed if you want to live to leave here. That’s the best advice you’ll ever get.”

  “It can’t be that bad.”

“No, it’s worse. I’ve warned you. Now I need to get as far away from here as I can,” Polly said.

The good doctor turned and almost ran to the shuttle. It looked like she was leaving everything behind unless her bags had been loaded already. There had been twenty people on the shuttle coming in, but only two on the one leaving.

“Some people never leave here,” A rough male voice observed.

“What do you mean?” Isis asked.

“Fresh meat. We like that. I’m Prat, I run security here and I take what I want. Fight me, I like it. Polly was a pushover, but I bet you won’t be. Your file says combat experience on the outer reaches while you were earning money for med school.” He leaned in and sniffed her.

“Not a big fan of personal space?”

“Not when I’m around something I like.”

“I don’t play well with others, especially assholes.”

“Feisty, I like that. You won’t hold out long.”

“You might be surprised. Now, who is assigned to showing me around and giving me my assignment?”

Prat let out a sharp whistle. A skinny nervous man came running. “H-hello, I’m Nes Jacobs. Let me show you to your quarters.” He took off and she followed. Isis felt the creepy asshole’s eyes follow her until she was out of sight.

Isis had hoped for a little adjustment time before the bullies started playing around. Clearly, it didn’t pay to hope.

  Chapter 2

  Guarded

Steve squeezed his fists so hard they ached. Anger rolled over him and he felt completely helpless. The monitors showed him the scene as it played out where the newbies were arriving. She was here and he’d been told she might come, but Cash never committed to it.

Naturally, Prat was there to greet her and to attempt to intimidate her. While it didn’t seem to be working for him, Steve knew that asshole wouldn’t be thwarted easily. He’d chase her and try to take her every chance he got until he succeeded or someone stopped him. It was just the way that particular creep operated.

The Earth government operative had been here two months now. As soon as his people descended on space station Theta, he’d been sent here. Before his reassignment, he’d had some drinks with some of the hunters sent in to help and he’d taken a feisty one back to his room with him. Best sex ever, but it had been so much more than that.

Waking in the morning to a cold and empty bed had been disappointing, but not as disappointing as finding out she’d been sent to Earth on assignment. It had made Steve wonder if she was avoiding him and if she was, if he would ever see her again. Since he assumed Cash had told her he was already undercover here, he guessed she wasn’t hiding out from him after all.

He would have his work cut out here trying to woo her and protect her all the while fulfilling his own mission requirements. This place might just be the worst one ever. It needed to be shut down as quickly as possible. To that end, he had been sending information back to his superiors and waiting until they decided they had all the proof they needed.

Watching the feed, he saw Jacobs approaching. Good. He would take her to her quarters and give the quick tour. That would get her away from Prat for a little while. The man harassed all the women here. The employees had a little protection because they were here to do a job and when he’d killed a female doctor six months ago, they’d punished him by taking a paycheck. It made him a bit more cautious.

Prat had been hurting and even killing people here for his personal entertainment for years. Now that subjects were becoming harder to come by, they had to be kept alive. Prat had begun to abuse the employees. Employees, especially doctors were getting harder to hire, so he’d been warned about hurting them. Steve knew it was only a matter of time before Prat went psycho and hurt someone anyway.

Before today, Steve would have bet it would be Polly, but she’d escaped. Now the deranged sadist was turning his evil eye on Isis. That scared Steve half to death. “Hey, Man. I’m here. Boss wants you to make a couple rounds before you’re off the clock,” Kelly said.

Kelly was a guard here like Steve was, although Kelly didn’t do the rounds or go into the areas subjects were held. He was a big guy and could fight, but he was some kind of tech head and only worked in the monitoring station.

“One more year and I’ll be out of this hell hole,” Kelly quipped. “I feel bad for you with almost three years of your tour ahead.”

Zero, as this place was unaffectionately called, required three year contracts of their employees. At the end of their service, a large bonus was paid. Kelly was here for the bonus which would pay for the startup of a tech business. The guy hadn’t realized what he was getting into when he’d started here and now he was trapped until his time was up. People that tried to leave early often disappeared never to be seen again, at least not breathing.

Steve waved at Kelly and headed out the door. Rounds here weren’t any fun. Usually walking and looking for trouble would give him a sense of purpose, but here he had to walk through the cells where subjects were kept. He’d expected everything to be clean and well-kept when he’d first been assigned to investigate the labs. He’d been astonished by the poor and filthy condition of the cell blocks in his first target. Each lab was different, affected by those in charge.

This was the worst one he’d seen yet. The saddest part was when he’d been told conditions had improved because they were having trouble acquiring new subjects. That meant they had to keep the ones on hand alive and reasonably healthy. Guards and other employees were no longer allowed to abuse or victimize subjects and they were being cleaned and fed on regular schedules too. All of this was a vast improvement in their care.

As he opened the door going to the cells, the odor hit him right away. He pulled out his radio and called medical. Death hung over the cell block as another subject decided the changes would extend his life longer than he was prepared to live. The very first cell housed the newly deceased and his body h
ung from a hook. Had this man truly killed himself or had he been helped out? Steve would bet his paycheck that the camera footage would be looped and the actual hanging wouldn’t be on there, only the results.

The man was one of the older subjects. He’d probably made the mistake of using his newly recovered strength, a side effect of the improved diet, to stand up to a guard. Whoever was on guard duty when this had occurred would have his pay docked. Judging by the condition of the body, this had happened during night shift. He fought the urge to take the body down and cover him to show some respect. Instead, he just stood there waiting for the head doctor, Jacobs, to come and take charge of the remains.

“What do we have here?” Jacobs asked. “If this keeps happening, we’ll have to start cutting down on staff.”

“How often has this been happening?” Steve asked.

“I forget that you’re new. This is the fourth one in as many weeks.”

  “What about before then?”

“We dealt with injuries before, now it’s fatalities.”

“Are you going to classify it as suicide?”

Jacobs snorted. “It’s clearly not, but I’ll be next if I call it anything else.”

  “I find that alarming.”

“Don’t you think I find it even scarier?”

Steve supposed he did. Some sicko was killing subjects and who knew when he would expand to personnel or even move out into the general population on the station? It was one of the smaller stations and could hold only a few thousand people, but it was nowhere near capacity.
